MICROBREWERY

A microbrewery is a term used to describe a small commercial brewery. The term and trend originated in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s to describe the new generation of small breweries which had a focus on producing traditional cask ale.

Though originally used to reflect the size of the breweries, it gradually came to reflect an alternative attitude and approach to brewing of flexibility, adaptability, experimentation and customer service.

Driftwood Ale

Driftwood Brewing Company

Driftwood Brewing Company was founded in Victoria BC in the spring of 2008 by two very passionate and experienced brewers, Jason Meyer and Kevin Hearsum. They wanted to make and sell the kind of beer they liked best: beer that is fresh, brewed in the tradition of classic world styles but with the finest local ingredients.

To develop the sales and marketing of the new brewery, Gary Lindsay joined the team in August bringing with him years of successfully promoting craft beer in the local market. With the depth of experience in the partnership, Driftwood is able to brew with an adventurous spirit to reflect the tastes of the many who are seeking to experience bold new flavors and rediscover some more familiar styles. It is beer for everyone to enjoy!

Driftwood Brewing currently boasts three all-year round brews: Farmhand Ale, a traditional Belgian Saison; Driftwood Ale, a perfect marriage of German and Northwest hops; and the White Bark Ale, a traditional Belgian style Wit. There are also two seasonal beers, the Brother Bart’s Brown, a traditional Belgian style Dubbel; and the Crooked Coast, an amber ale inspired by the Alt-style beer of Dusseldorf.

COOKING WITH BEER

It just makes sense to cook with beer. Beer has more in common with a lot of the food that we eat than does that other popular cooking beverage, wine. It contains grain (barley), herbs (hops), water and yeast. Adding beer to a recipe can really change the character of the dish. It can enhance particular ingredients, help blend the flavors of the dish, or just add that little zing that your meal might be lacking. Don't be afraid to experiment when cooking with beer!
